Fit Questions

How do Collaro’s trousers fit?

Our trousers are generally mid to high rise, which means they are meant to be worn slightly higher on the waist. We recommend a more relaxed silhouette, though you can opt for a slimmer fit if you’d like.

For my first order, should I go for a classic fit or slim fit?

Compared to the slim fit, the classic fit is roomier from the hips down to the hem. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, go for our classic fit.

What size should I select for my first trousers?

After you’ve decided on the fit you’d like to go for, you can select the size of your trousers based on your true waist measurement.

Most ready to wear brands have vanity sizing, so a size 32 can have a true waist measurement of 33 or even 34. As such, we tend to recommend going 1 or 2 sizes up, which will be our size 33 or size 34 in this case.

Collaro uses true waist measurement, how do I know what my true waist measurement is?

You can approximate the true waist measurement of your trousers, by taking the “half waist measurement” of your your favorite/go-to trousers.

Approximating True Waist

Here's how to get started:

1. Lay trousers on a flat surface, and flatten the waistband. It is okay that the front of waistband is slightly lower than the back

2. Measure from the left most point to the right most point, and round up to the nearest 0.25inch. In this example, the measurement is approximately 15.75inch

3. Multiply this half waist measurement by 2, then add 1inch for a snug fit or 1.5inch for a comfortable fit. In this example, we'll use 15.75inch x 2 + 1.5 = 33inch

4. When you create your size profile, select size 33 If you get 32.5inch as your true waist measurement, we suggest selecting size 33 too for a start, then adjusting your waist measurement down from 33 to 32.5

5. If your half waist measurement exceeds 19inch, please add 1.75inch to 2 inch instead

Can I get your opinion on my favorite trousers, so that we can  improve the fit?

Sure thing, please take 3 fit pictures and send it over to us, and we’ll get back to you via email on some recommendations.

If I put on weight, can I bring this pair of trousers to my local tailor to adjust?

We build fabric allowance in our trousers from waist to hem, so if you bring it to your local tailor they’ll be able to loosen and/or lengthen if need be.

What are trial trousers?

Trial trousers is an add-on option that allows you to test the fit of our trousers. After receiving the trial trousers, you can upload your fit pictures for us to review, so that we can make adjustments to your size profile to improve your fit. The updated size profile will be used for the remaining trousers in your order.

Can I get your help to create a size profile?

Sure thing, reach out to us here (contact@collaro.co) and we'll get back to you within 3 to 5 days.

Fabric and Design

Should I go for pleats?

Pleats give you volume at the front of your hips and thigh. Functionally, that gives you extra mobility and comfort as you move around or when you’re seated. Visually, the silhouette is roomier around the hips and thigh, especially when viewed from the side.

If you prefer a slimmer fit, we suggest not to select the pleats design as it will create a very sharp taper from the thigh down to the hem.

How much would a pair of trousers in a fabric and design I like cost?

On the top right corner of the page, select USD as your currency of choice.

Some design details (waistband designs, internal lining) that require more time or extra fabric to craft come with an add-on fee.

After designing your trousers, you’ll be able to see the final cost of the trousers at the bottom of the page.

Just a heads up that we bill in Singapore dollars, so at the checkout page, you'll see your order amount in Singapore dollars.

I’ve heard that cuffs are not suitable for shorter people, what do you think?

Visually, cuffs can "shorten your leg" and so if you're short and stout we'd recommend you to go without the cuffs.

That said, our trousers tend to be worn higher on the waist. This has the visual effect of elongating your legs, so you can still consider going for a short cuff, such as the 1.5inch cuffs.

I’m looking for smart casual trousers, are cotton or linen trousers a good option?

Depending on the environment you’re in, you can consider our Japanese or English cotton trousers, as they do not crease as easily as your typical cotton chinos. Go for darker colors too, as they lend more formality and tend to mask creases better.

Linen trousers are more prone to creases, and therefore would not be a good option if you’re in a more formal environment. That said, we really like the look and feel of a linen trousers, and we think you should own at least a pair of linen trousers.

What is the difference between No Cuffs and No Cuffs (1inch stitching)?

For No Cuffs, a “blind stitch” technique is used such that you can’t really see obvious stitches at the hem, and this is often done for formal trousers.

For No Cuffs (1inch stitching), a horizontal stitch will be sewn across the bottom of the trousers and this is often done for more casual trousers. A benefit of this is that you can fold up your trousers in intervals of 1inch.
